King Size? Bed or mattress or bed sheet??? Nope, this is the bigger brother of the Rado Green Horse I posted here. King size means big; the biggest among the peer. This rare piece has a 38mm diameter case excluding the crown and its thickness is 9mm inclusive of the acrylic crystal. This watch comes paired with an aftermarket leather band.
The King Size has a striking symmetrical dial separated into four quadrants. This dial is also decorated with the red rotating anchor logo. On the silver dial, it is clearly stated that "Rado; 30 Jewels; Green Horse; King Size.".At the bottom of the dial is the official wording Swiss Made, indicating that the movement and the process of assembling this watch was all done in Switzerland.
The twin seahorses emblem is at the 9 o'clock position. The date window is elevated but a bit too congested to my liking. The date numeric is in red colour. It has silver coloured hands. The sweeping second hand has a very classical vintage look.
On the crown is a capital letter "R" embossed on. A raised letter “R” is featured on all Rado models manufactured until about 1958. A raised anchor symbol is used on post-1958 models. However there were years of transitional period.
The back case is made of stainless steel and is beautifully engraved with two seahorses. Unlike the usual screw thread; screw on back case, this one is using the four bars locking system. You just need to turn a little to open the back case.
Once removed the back case, there is a shining gold plated rotor with Rado wording and Rado's anchor logo engraving on it. It also stated 30 jewels. This is the automatic A. Schild (AS) 1789 movements with calendar
The heart rate for this vintage movement is 18000 A/h and AS 1789 has a power reserve of 42 hours. The date function is non quickset. The movement is descent polished and fits for the King's model.
King sizes are rare and are noteworthy. It is quite difficult to find one in such descent condition.
